The Senedd Election 2026 votes have now all been counted and we know the makeup of the 96 politicians who will represent people in the Welsh Parliament. Many of them will be new faces. Find out more about all of them here.
Turnout was up at this year’s Senedd election. Some 1.2m of people went to the polls taking turnout for 2026 to 51.72%.
The election five years ago previously held the record for the highest turnout at a Welsh election at 47%. However, the turnout is still significantly lower than in Wales for UK General Elections, which peaked at 69% in 2017.
The new politicians will now have to take their oaths ahead of the first plenary meeting must take place by May 21, 14 days after the election.
The current Presiding Officer, Elin Jones, will name the date and time of that meeting. She is not standing for re-election to that role again.
At its first meeting the Senedd must elect a new Presiding Officer and Deputy Presiding Officer, and the next First Minister has to be appointed by June 4.
