According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Germany’s seasonally and calendar-adjusted exports reached 135.8 billion euros in March 2026, while imports totaled 121.5 billion euros. This resulted in a trade surplus of 14.3 billion euros for the month.

Compared to February 2026, exports rose by 0.5 percent and imports increased by 5.1 percent. On an annual basis, compared to March 2025, exports were up 1.9 percent and imports grew by 7.2 percent. The trade surplus in February 2026 had been 19.6 billion euros, and in March 2025 it had stood at 19.9 billion euros.

Trade with European Union member states saw exports of 78.4 billion euros and imports of 61.0 billion euros in March 2026. Exports to the EU rose by 3.4 percent from the prior month, while imports from the EU increased by 3.0 percent. Within the eurozone, exports amounted to 54.8 billion euros (up 4.1 percent) and imports reached 40.8 billion euros (up 1.7 percent). To EU countries outside the eurozone, exports were 23.6 billion euros (up 1.7 percent) and imports totaled 20.1 billion euros (up 5.7 percent).

In trade with non-EU countries, exports fell by 3.3 percent to 57.4 billion euros, while imports from those countries rose by 7.4 percent to 60.5 billion euros. The United States remained the top destination for German exports at 11.2 billion euros, though this was 7.9 percent lower than in February 2026 and 21.4 percent below the level of March 2025. Exports to the United Kingdom increased by 3.2 percent to 7.4 billion euros. Exports to the People’s Republic of China fell by 1.8 percent to 6.0 billion euros.

The largest source of imports was the People’s Republic of China, with 15.6 billion euros, an increase of 4.9 percent from the prior month. Imports from the United States decreased by 3.7 percent to 8.0 billion euros. Imports from the United Kingdom rose by 11.7 percent to 3.5 billion euros.

On an unadjusted nominal basis, March 2026 exports were 150.3 billion euros and imports were 130.4 billion euros, resulting in an unadjusted surplus of 19.8 billion euros. Compared to March 2025, unadjusted exports grew by 6.9 percent and imports by 11.1 percent. The unadjusted surplus in March 2025 had been 23.2 billion euros.
