Police, fire crews and paramedics rushed to Lanark Road near the Water of Leith shortly after 10am on Saturday.

A major emergency response was launched in Edinburgh this morning after concerns were raised for a person in the Water of Leith area.

Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to Lanark Road shortly after 10am on Saturday, with multiple emergency vehicles seen lining the busy route.

Officers taped off the entrance to Knockhillbraehead near the Water of Leith walkway as the incident unfolded, while crews remained in attendance at the scene.

Images from the area showed a significant emergency presence, including police positioned at the path entrance. Despite the scale of the response, the road itself has not been closed to traffic.

Police Scotland confirmed they were called out at around 10am following a report of concern for a man in the Water of Leith walkway area.

A spokesperson said: “Around 10am on Saturday, 9 May, 2026, we were called to a report of concern for a man at the Water of Leith walkway. Officers are in attendance.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also attended after being alerted at 10.04am, dispatching two appliances to assist at the scene.

Emergency crews remained on site late into the morning as enquiries continued.
