Cardiff’s Victoria Park will soon have a new bar and taproom to visit.

The Pig & Swill, found on the corner of Cowbridge Road East and Victoria Park Road West, comes with good pedigree, with the team who run Hireath across the road, behind it.

Michelin Guide placed restaurant, Hireath is run by chefs Andy Aston and Lewis Dwyer who wanted to give their diners the option of somewhere to extend their evening after a meal, with a relaxed pint or wine.

Hireath’s modest size means they had their eye out for another venue and when Parklands cafe closed on the spot by the park, they took their opportunity.

The Pig & Swill will open to the public on Saturday, May 9 at midday after an opening party on the Friday night, tickets for that were sold via the Kickstarter to get the pub up and running.

Of course, it won’t only be open to Hiraeth diners, the tap room will serve craft beer, wine and snacks to anyone who wants to pop in.

The bar will have 10 ales on tap, served on a rotating basis, and will offer a different sort of pint and vibe to the Victoria Park neighbourhood. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What’s On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here

Chef Andy, who has been in the industry for more than two decades, said the new taproom was somewhere they wanted to “create a community feel” but at a quality and standard that they aim for across the road in Hiraeth.

“We’re not looking to reinvent the wheel at all,” he added. “It’s just somewhere really nice to come have a drink, have a bite to eat and meet up with friends and family.

“We’re also really keen to offer something different to what’s across the road. We’ve been really lucky that the whole street along here, that little road, are really supportive. So I think the last thing we want to do is to try and create a competition.”
