A neighbourhood restaurant that issued a plea to Birmingham City Council for permission to open just one hour later is breathing a sigh of relief after permission was granted to feed guests until 9pm.
Lisa and Pann is a family-run Malaysian restaurant that opened on Billesley Lane back in 2023.
Restaurant owners Lee Sa Tan and Fui Peng Chong – better known in the community as Lisa and Pann – told BirminghamLive previously that it feared it would struggle to keep its head above water if it wasn’t able to extend its operating hours.

Now it is celebrating the good news in a unit that has previously divided opinion in the neighbourhood.
In the past, a restaurant application to extend opening hours to 11pm in the same location was denied by the council with one complainant saying it would disrupt their ability to hear owls in the neighbourhood.
Melt, a melted cheese restaurant, occupied the unit from March 2021 until it closed for good two years later.
Announcing its new opening hours, Lisa and Pann said: “We’re incredibly excited and grateful to share that our application has officially been approved by birmingham -city-council>Birmingham City Council — which means Lisa and Pann will now be open until 9pm.
“This is a huge milestone for us, and it truly wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing support from our friends, family, loyal customers, neighbours, and everyone involved in supporting our application from the very beginning.
“Your encouragement, kindness, and belief in what we do means everything to us. We can’t wait to welcome you for longer evenings, more delicious food, and even more special memories together.”

Moseley Councillor Izzy Knowles commented: “I was pleased to hear this application to extend opening hours has been approved by Birmingham City Council planning officers.
“I was happy to add my support as it made total sense to enable the business to thrive and there was no evidence that it will negatively impact local residents.
“I wish Lisa and Pann the very best for the future, they are an asset to Moseley.”
Commenting on Facebook, Bill Lees wrote: “Excellent news! Very happy they’ve seen sense at last!”
Jewellery Quarter brewery Rock n Roll Brewhouse added: “Congratulations! So pleased for you! And so pleased you’re doing well.”
Gary Thompson commented: “That’s great so pleased for you both all that hard work has paid off.”
