Carmel, who has spent the past 13 years at Forest Holme Hospice, has worked in the NHS for more than three decades and has left a lasting impression on countless patients, families, and colleagues.

At the hospice, she became known by colleagues as the “Pocket Rocket,” and was described as bringing warmth, strength, and reassurance during some of life’s most challenging times.

One family said: “We will be forever grateful for the care and compassion she showed us.’

Another family said: “She left a mark on my heart and my soul with her kindness and going the extra mile

“Nothing was ever too much.”

Her colleagues also spoke of her positive influence on the team.

One message said: “You always had a smile on your face even when times were tough and treated patients and colleagues with compassion and kindness.”

A spokesperson for Forest Holme Hospice said: “Carmel represents everything that hospice care stands for.

“She has given so much of herself to others over the years, and the difference she has made is immeasurable.

“It has been a privilege to have her as part of our team, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to shape the care we provide.

“As she begins this next chapter, the hospice extends its thanks and warmest wishes for a happy retirement.”
