A woman was arrested on suspicion of child neglect

A woman arrested following the death of a baby girl in south Manchester has been released on bail.
Emergency services rushed to Platt Lane in Fallowfield on Thursday morning (May 7) after concerns were raised over the baby’s welfare.
Despite the best efforts of medics, she died in hospital.

An investigation was launched and a 25 year-old woman was arrested on supsicion of child neglect.
In an update issued this morning (Sunday), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said she had since been bailed pending further enquiries.

One person at the scene told the Manchester Evening News she saw a paramedic run out of a property with a baby. “It was terrifying,” she said. “Very scary.”
On Friday, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench, from the force’s City of Manchester District, said: “This is a devastating incident and news of a police investigation will cause shock in the local community.
“Please be assured that we are keeping an open mind as we pursue several lines of enquiry, working closely with our partners to understand the full circumstances surrounding how this death occurred.
“We are doing everything possible to provide answers for this baby and their family. Anyone with information which may assist our investigation is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting log 825 of 07/05/26.”
