There are currently eight fire engines at the scene.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said:
“Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Smithdown Road, Liverpool on the evening of Sunday 10 May.
“Crews were alerted at 22.04 and on scene at 22.10, there are currently 8 fire engines and one aerial appliance in attendance.
“On arrival this was a fire within a property, two firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) were committed under rapid deployment with one hose reel jet to fight the fire.
“This incident has been sectorised, and the fire has spread to the chimney into the roof space above. MFRS crews are continuing to fight the fire internally and externally.
“The building has been evacuated, and Merseyside Police are in attendance to assist with traffic management.
“This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.”
