With the Bramley (and Stanningley!) Community Arts Festival coming up this weekend, one of the organisers, Noëlle Williamson, has been hard at work creating a ‘Community Selfie’.

This is a video featuring people from about two dozen locally-based organisations. each reciting a line from a poem.

The chosen poem is ‘A Fanfare for the Makers’ by Louis MacNeice, and it is a celebration of creativity and rebuilding.

There are contributions from firefighters, bell ringers, refuse collectors, parkrunners (pictured above), postal workers, birdwatchers and many more.

Videoing is still ongoing but there is one special segment for families based in Bramley and Stanningley. If you want to take part, get to Bramley Park for 6.25pm tomorrow (Tuesday 12 May). Assemble just inside the Broad Lane entrance opposite the Baths/Calverley Drive.

Noëlle told WLD: “There will be a prompt board for the lines, so nobody needs to learn anything. And all of the speaking is in unison so nobody has to speak alone. We expect to be finished in 10-15 minutes.”

This is the line for the Family segment:

“…as a family grows
At times like sunflowers turning towards the light.”

The Community Selfie will be shown on Saturday, May 16, during the Open Afternoon at Bramley Trinity Methodist Church, Upper Town Street, between 2pm and 4pm.

It will also be uploaded to the Bramley Community Arts CIC Facebook page and the West Leeds Dispatch website.
