During a recent visit, German defense officials highlighted that the joint venture will focus on the development and mass production of drones with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers. These systems are designed to operate effectively in contested environments, providing a strategic counter-measure against long-range threats.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated, “The development of these systems is a direct response to the evolving needs of the modern battlefield.” He emphasized that the partnership leverages German engineering expertise alongside Ukraine’s frontline experience and rapid innovation cycle.
In addition to production, the agreement includes the transfer of technology and the establishment of maintenance hubs. This ensures that the systems can be serviced and upgraded directly within Ukraine, reducing reliance on external logistics.
The initiative also integrates Ukrainian combat data into the design process. Officials noted that the collaboration will help refine drone technology to better bypass electronic warfare systems. “By combining our resources, we are creating a sustainable defense industry that can react to threats in real-time,” Pistorius added.

This move follows a series of agreements between European defense firms and the Ukrainian government intended to localize the production of critical military hardware. The focus on long-range capabilities marks a significant expansion in the scope of Western technical assistance.
Previously, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s recent claims regarding a quick end to the war were a deceptive maneuver intended to distract from his military’s weaknesses.
During a press conference in Kyiv, Pistorius noted that Putin could end the aggression at any moment by withdrawing his troops, but instead continued to put forward various conditions as part of a hybrid warfare strategy.
Following their meeting, Pistorius and Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov exchanged symbolic gifts, including a German defense medal and Ukrainian salt from Soledar, to mark the ongoing cooperation between the two nations.
