The European Broadcasting Union and SRG SSR have announced that the Semi-Final Qualifiers will change for this year’s contest.
At a media briefing in Basel, the organisers have announced changes to the way in which the qualifiers in the Semi-Final will be revealed. For the first nine qualifiers, three acts will be displayed split-screen, of which one of the acts will be announced as the qualifier. For the tenth spot in the final, the qualifier will be announced by the hosts.
This is a change from the previous announcement method, which saw the qualifiers announcement preceded by shots of various delegations in the green room. Sometimes the countries shown on the broadcast would include the next qualifier, other times it would be a country not shown on screen yet.
The change has come about to show the delegations on screen more rather than the hosts. It was also confirmed that no country will be shown more than 3 times during the qualifiers sequence, as organisers had noticed some countries being shown repeatedly regardless of whether they qualified. The new qualifiers announcement method is being trialled in the first Dress Rehearsal this afternoon.
