Bristol City and their EFL counterparts have until the third Saturday of May to submit their retained and released lists

With the Championship season now concluded, barring the play-offs, clubs across England’s second tier have started to confirm their retained and released lists ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bristol City, who at the time of writing remain managerless, are one of the sides yet to confirm the initial make-up of their ranks. The Robins and their counterparts across the EFL have until Saturday to reveal their retained lists and tell their players if they wish to keep them beyond the end of their current contracts.

It is not unusual for clubs to leave the publication of their lists until the final stages of the week. However, a handful of sides in the Championship have now announced which senior players will be leaving in the next couple of months, when their contracts expire.

Oxford United, who will be plying their trade in League One following relegation this season, are the latest to reveal their retained list.

On Monday, the U’s confirmed that Przemysław Płacheta, Myles Peart-Harris, Hidde ter Avest, Owen Dale, Will Goodwin, Joshua Johnson, Jacob Knightbridge, Steph Negru, Tom Bradshaw and Stuart Findlay are all set to leave the Kassam Stadium this summer.

Placheta’s name may be one that catches the eye of City supporters. The winger scored the first of his three Championship goals this term in Oxford’s 3-1 win over the Robins at Ashton Gate all the way back in September.

The 28-year-old’s left-footed volley on the stroke of half-time was nominated for the goal of the month award, alongside Anis Mehmeti’s effort in the same game.

Peart-Harris joined the U’s on a short-term deal from Brentford in the January transfer window and made his league debut for Matt Bloomfield’s side against the Reds when they visited the Kassam Stadium in January. That day, there was nothing to split the two sides in a 0-0 draw.

Unlike Oxford, Charlton Athletic were able to dodge the drop to League One this term, as Nathan Jones’ side finished 19th and six points clear of the bottom three in their first campaign back in the Championship.

With safety secured, the Addicks have also shared their retained list, with it confirmed that both Luke Berry and Terry Taylor will leave The Valley as free agents this summer. Charlton remain in discussions with striker Lyndon Dykes and 34-year-old Matty Godden.

Although Norwich are yet to publish their retained and released list in full, the Canaries have confirmed that a handful of senior players will not be remaining on their books beyond the expiry of their contracts this summer.

Each of Shane Duffy, Emiliano Marcondes, Tony Springett, Jeffrey Schlupp and Dan Barden’s time at Carrow Road will come to an end in the coming months.

Schlupp joined the Canaries last summer, following the appointment of former City boss Liam Manning, but only made nine league appearances in Norwich colours, the last of which came all the way back in November.

Duffy, aged 34, made the move to East Anglia from Fulham in 2023 and played regularly in his first two campaigns back in the Championship. This term, however, he played just 259 minutes of Championship football. Marcondes was similarly restricted to just seven league starts.

The only other club, at the time of writing, to confirm any free agent exits is QPR. The Hoops have announced that goalkeeping pair Paul Nardi and Ben Hamer, as well as midfielder Isaac Hayden and defender Steve Cook, will not be part of the squad at Loftus Road next season.

City and the rest of the clubs in the Championship – other than those competing in the play-offs – have until Saturday, May 16, to submit their retained lists to the EFL.
