A convoy of caravans were filmed arriving at a park

Travellers have reportedly driven onto a recreation ground in Birmingham.
Footage has been posted on social media showing a convoy of caravans and other vehicles pulling into Sheldon Country Park, off Coventry Road and Horseshoes Lane, as traffic waited on Tuesday evening (May 12).
The Friends of Sheldon Country Park said they had been informed of the incursion on the recreation ground.

This is the third known illegal encampment at the park so far this year.
Friends of Sheldon Country Park posted on Facebook: “Travellers at Sheldon Country Park.
“We have just been informed that travellers have arrived once again on the Sheldon Rec side of the park.”

The council has previously said about illegal encampments: ” Birmingham City Council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover this land where unauthorised encampments encroach upon it.
“The council has useable transit sites and plots for use by the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community – which is in line with Government policy – and details of the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment carried out and updated in 2019 can be found on our website.”
