Birmingham MP Preet Kaur Gill has been appointed as a parliamentary under-secretary of state following a series of ministerial resignations which have intensified pressure on Sir Keir Starmer.
She will work in the Department of Health and Social Care and was among seven MPs to be given new roles yesterday.
Gill, who has been MP for Edgbaston in Birmingham since 2017, will serve as an assistant to a government minister.
Labour descended into open division on Tuesday as at least four ministers, including Yardley MP Jess Phillips, resigned and more than 80 MPs called on the prime minister to step down.
