Netflix‘s new Martin Short documentary has debuted to a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score after attracting huge acclaim. Marty, Life Is Short has just landed on the streamer and looks back at the iconic comedy star’s decades-long career.
Famous for his work on Saturday Night Live and characters such as Jiminy Glick, the comedian has appeared in movies such as Three Amigos, Father of the Bride and Mars Attacks!, and has been known in recent years for starring in Only Murders in the Building.
Having built “one of comedy’s most inventive and enduring careers”, the film includes “never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive interviews with a star-studded list of friends and collaborators to tell Short’s story”.

Marty, Life is Short has earned 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 13 reviews at the time of writing, But Why Tho? calling it “a truly wonderful experience”.
“Marty Life Is Short is a winsome celebration of a joyful individual,” they added. “Martin Short’s unwillingness to see life as anything short of a blessing, even when dealing with sadder moments, gives the documentary an uplifting energy from start to finish.”
Reel Film Reviews labelled the movie “a first-class portrait of a justifiably iconic (and beloved) performer”, while Solzy at the Movies said it “ultimately works best as a warm, engaging portrait of Martin Short that doesn’t try to overreach”.
“If you didn’t already love Martin Short, you’re going to after this loving profile,” added Common Sense Media. “Marty, Life is Short offers a close-up view of the actor’s joy-infused and celebrity-filled life.”

“Part of the film’s appreciation of the performer is also of the person, the grand party host and doting family man, that the laughing audience may have never known existed,” The AV Club further wrote.
Meanwhile, Short’s series Only Murders in the Building – which co-stars long-term collaborator Steve Martin and Selena Gomez – was renewed for season six last year, with the show set to move events to London.
