The capital holds its breath as the prospect of Hearts first league title win since Tommy Walker guided the Jambos to the pinnacle of the Scottish game back in 1960 could be a mere 90 minutes away. Many scoffed when Tony Bloom detailed his plans for challenging the Old Firm duopoly at the start of the season but rivals of the Gorgie club are not laughing now.

In what has been an incredible season, Hearts have maintained their place at the top of the table for the vast majority of the season, overcoming severe injury setbacks and a previously perceived insurmountable financial gulf between them and the Glasgow giants. From last minute derby wins, to spirited home comebacks, the Boys in Maroon can almost taste title glory.

Tonight they take on Falkirk at Tynecastle in what will surely be one of the best atmospheres the historic stadium has ever witnessed. If they win and Celtic lose away to Motherwell at Fir Park, then the Scottish Premiership trophy will be their’s.

Celtic sit just one point off Hearts, and if results go a certain way, then the season could come down to dramatic final day showdown at Parkhead on Saturday May 16 at 12.30pm. To have Hearts fans nerves teetering ever closer to the brink, goal difference could also be essential if Celtic sit three points behind their team after tonight’s matches.

Hearts currently hold a three goal advantage over Celtic but that could quickly be washed away if an early Celtic barrage unfolds at the weekend.

We will be covering the build up to Hearts vs Falkirk tonight (8pm) so feel free to get in touch to share your thoughts, predictions and fears ahead of what could be one of the most momentous sporting occasions our city has seen in generations.
