British Transport Police were called just before 3pm this afternoon to Kirkstall Forge after a “casualty was found on the tracks”.
They said that a person had been pronounced dead at the scene.
What police have said
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Kirkstall Forge at 2.53pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
RealTimeTrains confirmed the disruption is “due to a person being hit by a train”.
Bradford and Leeds trains cancelled
A spokesperson for Northern also confirmed the incident happened between Kirkstall and Leeds.
In addition to services at Bradford Forster Square, Frizinghall, Shipley, Apperley Bridge, Kirkstall Forge and Leeds stations being affected, the incident is having a wider impact across the network.
The incident has also cancelled or delayed services this afternoon between the following stations between Ilkley and Leeds, Skipton and Leeds and Carlisle ad Leeds via Settle.
A message on Northern’s website says “the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed.
“Disruption is expected until 6pm today (May 13).”
