Rovers’ win over Salford City had a little bit of everything. The Ammies were in superb form and were on course for their fourth straight victory in Sky Bet League Two when former Pirates midfielder Matt Butcher placed a fine first-time effort into the top corner.
However, the Gas staged an impressive comeback. Ellis Harrison bagged his third goal of the campaign, getting onto Alfie Kilgour’s flicked header before finishing from close range. Fabrizio Cavegn then completed the turnaround. He showed quick thinking to make the most of a defensive mistake before slotting a low effort into the back of the net.
However, the drama was not over after the referee awarded Salford a penalty in the final seconds, with Luke Thomas fouling Jorge Grant. Nevertheless, Luke Southwood stood up to the task, getting down to his right to push away Luke Garbutt’s spot-kick.
