The jury in a trial of a man accused of raping a girl under the age of 15 has been discharged with a new trial expected to begin next week. Steffan Evans, Richard Cummings and Ryan Mahoney are alleged to have befriended three young teenagers in Cardiff and to have supplied them with alcohol before having sex with them and inciting them to engage in sexual activity. The defendants deny any wrongdoing.
The offending is said to have happened in 2011 and to have come to light in 2020 after one of the females went to the police.

Ryan Mahoney, 35, of Manor Lane, Sheffield, denies two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15 and two counts of causing/inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity.

On Wednesday, Judge Shomon Khan told members of the jury they would need to be discharged, in order for a new trial to take place.
None of the serving jurors will take part in that trial.
The retrial is scheduled to begin on Monday, with a new jury panel.
