Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has confirmed the return of Patsy Kensit as Sadie King. It was recently reported that the star, who appeared on EastEnders a few years ago, would be back as the villainous character after 20 years.

The soap has now officially announced that she is returning, with Sadie set to re-enter the Dales later this year.

“I am really excited to return to Emmerdale,” Patsy said. “I treasure the years I was here before. Sadie King is a character that I really loved playing.

“The cast and crew are absolutely brilliant and I am so grateful for the chance to return to the show, it’s absolutely amazing.”

Producer Laura Shaw added: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy Kensit back to the cast and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village.”

She added that her comeback will be “explosive” and is “guaranteed to shock”, further teasing: “Sadie’s seductive demeanor, combined with her utterly ruthless nature, are set to deliver a spectacular and highly dramatic touch of class to the Yorkshire Dales.”

Patsy’s original stint lasted for two years, with her character part of memorable storylines including her marriage to Jimmy King, affairs with Robert Sugden and Cain Dingle, as well as scheming against her father-in-law Tom King.

Her exit played out at the King River Show Home explosion, which saw the deaths of three people including Bob Hope’s daughter Dawn, and in the end she departed after being double crossed by Cain despite her paying him to sabotage the show.

Patsy told Digital Spy a few years ago that she would be keen to return to the Dales, sharing: “I really enjoyed it, I love those matriarchal kind of women and it’s so nice to find a character who pushes the envelope a bit more with that. Never say never. “

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
