A boy has been arrested after a school was locked down and police were called. Childwall Sports and Science Academy was placed into lockdown after a threat was believed to have been made towards a pupil at the academy.
The threat was reportedly made at around midday today, May 14, with the academy confirming to the ECHO it had followed lockdown procedures while Merseyside Police attended the premises. There was no wider threat to other pupils or member of staff at the school.
Police said the school decided to lockdown following its own safety procedures.
Parents were told not to attend the school in a letter sent from Childwall Sports and Science Academy, although parents were seen racing to the school to collect their children following the news of the threat.
The ECHO was told how the building was secured as a message appeared on screens across the school and in classrooms, with pupils not allowed to leave class during lunch.

In an update from Merseyside Police shortly after 5pm on May 14, a spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and will be taken to a police station for questioning.
“The school removed their lockdown earlier this afternoon.”
In a letter to parents, seen by the ECHO, the school said it was in lockdown as a “precaution” to ensure the safety of students and staff.
It advised parents to not attend the school as staff focused on the situation saying further updates would be provided when able.
The full letter read: “Childwall Sports and Science Academy is currently in a lockdown as a precaution to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
“Please do not come to the school at this time, as staff are focused on managing the situation and will not be available to speak to parents.
“We will provide further updates as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your cooperation.”
When the ECHO attended the school at around 1.30pm, cars were seen queuing out the front of the school with a large group of parents and children crowded round the front entrance of the main building.
