Six cats have died in an accidental shed fire in Co Armagh. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service were called to Fruitvale Cat Hotel close to Moira at 1pm on Wednesday, May 13.

Two appliances from Lurgan Fire Station, two Appliances from Portadown Fire Station, one Appliance from Lisburn Fire Station and a Water Tanker from Pomeroy Fire Station attended the incident.

A shed was on fire at the cat boarding service, with the cause of the blaze believed to be accidental. The incident was dealt with by 3.32pm.

A spokesperson for Fruitvale Cat Hotel told Belfast Live: “We are devastated by the loss and our thoughts are with all those affected. We are grateful to the emergency services for their response and are focusing on supporting those impacted.”

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a shed on fire on Old Church Lane, Soldierstown, Lurgan. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

“Unfortunately, 6 cats died in the incident. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental ignition and the incident was dealt with by 3.32pm.”
