Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming to the PS5 later this year, and the appearance of dummy boxes in US retailer GameStop is making everyone feel a bit weird.
In a Reddit post spotted by Windows Central, one user uploaded a photo of the box in their local store, noting that it’s “still very insane to see”.
There’s angst among the Xbox community about whether it will return to exclusives under new CEO Asha Sharma, but some Halo fans seem optimistic about the transition to the PS5.
One said: “This is pretty much Halo’s last chance to salvage any damage done the last decade.”
It’s been a rocky road for Microsoft’s flagship franchise over the past few years, with Halo Infinite delayed out of the Xbox Series X|S’ launch and ultimately underdelivering.
Halo Studios said that the future of Master Chief is “on PlayStation going forward”, but whether Microsoft has other plans remains to be seen.
For now, though, PS5 will get its first taste of the Spartan in Halo: Campaign Evolved, which doesn’t currently have a release date but is due out at some point this year.
