Free “Clinic in a Van” service aims to bring confidential testing, contraception and support directly into local communities
A brand-new mobile sexual health clinic is set to begin travelling across West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, bringing free and confidential care directly to communities.
Locala Sexual Health has launched its new “Clinic in a Van” initiative, a fully equipped, discreet mobile clinic designed to make sexual health support easier to access for people across Bradford, Kirklees, Stockport, Tameside, Wigan and Leigh.
The service will provide a range of sexual health services on the doorstep of local residents, removing many of the barriers that can prevent people from seeking support.
From routine testing and contraception to rapid HIV screening and specialist advice, the mobile clinic aims to offer accessible care without the need for lengthy journeys or appointments at traditional clinics.
Wide range of free services available
The van is equipped with two private clinical rooms and onboard facilities, offering the same professional standards as Locala’s permanent clinics.
Services available include:
- Sexual health screening and STI testing
- Rapid HIV testing
- Treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Contraception, including pills and injections (excluding coils)
- Free condoms through the C-Card scheme
- Advice on relationships and sexual health
- Support and signposting to specialist services
Locala says the service has been designed to be welcoming, simple to use and fully confidential.

Bringing care closer to communities
The initiative has been created to help people who may struggle to access traditional services due to work commitments, travel difficulties or uncertainty about where to seek help.
Joy Hewitson, Locala’s Medical Director, said: “We’re really excited to bring this new service out into our communities.
“We know that accessing sexual health support isn’t always easy – so this is about meeting people where they are and making care more flexible, more visible and more accessible for everyone.
“Whether it’s a routine check-up, advice, or contraception, the van gives people a simple, approachable way to look after their health.”
Locations to change each week
The “Clinic in a Van” will appear at different community locations each week across the region.
People can check upcoming locations, session times and events by visiting Locala Sexual Health online and through its social media channels.
Encouraging regular sexual health checks
Locala Sexual Health is encouraging people to view regular sexual health checks as a normal part of looking after their wellbeing, whether they have symptoms or not.
The organisation said all services remain free, confidential and open to people of all ages, with support delivered by experienced and non-judgemental professionals.
The launch of the mobile clinic is expected to make accessing that support quicker and easier for thousands of people across the region.
