A thief allegedly grabbed the till from a South Bristol shop and ran off as an accomplice stole items from inside.

The shopkeeper tried to give chase after the brazen daylight crime, which happened on North Street in Bedminster last month.

Avon and Somerset Police have now released a CCTV image of a man police want to speak to in connection to the theft.

The force said two men entered a shop on the street at around 2.30pm on Friday, April 3.

A spokesperson said today (Friday, May 15): “One of the offenders is believed to have distracted the shop owner while the second stole the till and ran off.

“The shop owner gave chase when a second offender is believed to have stolen various items from the shop.”

The man police want to speak to, pictured, is described as being white, in his late 30s and roughly 5ft 11ins tall.

He was wearing a blue cap, a dark coloured bomber jacket with white patterned sleeves, and blue jeans.

A police spokesperson said: “We have carried out CCTV and forensic enquiries, have conducted intelligence checks, but we are now at the stage where we are appealing to the public for any information on the identity of the man, pictured, who we believe may have information which could assist our enquiries.”
