The closure will affect the stretch of road between the Dyneley Arms/Pool Bank junction and the airport, with traffic restrictions in place from Monday, May 18, until Friday, May 29. Works will take place overnight between 7pm and 6am each weekday, with Friday evening closures continuing through to Saturday mornings.

Drivers heading to the airport during these times will face lengthy diversions, with journey times expected to increase by up to 30 minutes.

Diversion route in place

During the closures, a signed diversion will direct traffic away from the A658 Pool Bank route. Instead, motorists will be sent via the A660 through Bramhope and Lawnswood Roundabout, before joining the Leeds Ring Road. From there, drivers will continue to Horsforth Roundabout and re-join the A65, travelling through Yeadon to reach the airport.

The diversion particularly impacts drivers travelling from North Yorkshire, the North East and Wetherby, who typically use the affected route as the most direct approach to the airport.

Advice to travellers

Leeds Bradford Airport has urged passengers and those collecting or dropping off travellers to allow extra time for their journeys while the works are ongoing.

An airport spokesperson said: “We appreciate these works may cause disruption when travelling during these times and would strongly recommend allowing additional time when travelling to or from the airport.”
