Leeds United have been in late talks to try and sign “outstanding” player who is keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.
Leeds looking to repeat last year’s success in transfer window
Jamie Carragher believes Daniel Farke opting to recruit taller players, with the physical attributes to succeed in the Premier League, is a big reason why Leeds have managed to avoid relegation with plenty of time to spare.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “A lot was made with what they did in the summer. They recruited a lot of big lads, shall we say. But it was really clever, understandable, to get themselves equipped physically for the Premier League.
“Maybe I had an idea about how Leeds would play. Well, I think Leeds were the first Monday Night Football we did of the season against Everton, and some of the football they play is fantastic. I love them. I love watching them. I think they’re a really good team.”
Farke’s side haven’t always been the strongest defensively though, conceding 53 goals, and additional strength may be required if they are to kick on and start pushing up the Premier League table next season.
Leeds hold talks to sign Jannik Schuster
Signing players on the taller side is seemingly still of interest heading into the summer transfer window, with a report from TEAMtalk revealing Leeds held late talks about a deal for RB Salzburg’s Jannik Schuster, having been informed about his availability.
However, the 49ers couldn’t move swiftly enought to win the centre-back’s signature, given that he had already agreed personal terms on a move to Brentford, and the Bees have now announced his arrival.
Schuster, who stands at 6 foot 3, was available for around £17m, with his club looking to cash in, and Nizaar Kinsella has confirmed he ‘had other options’ before signing on the dotted line at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Scout Antonio Mango is a big fan of the defender, having praised his physicality, aerial ability and skill in possession.
After being in and out of the team in the early stages of the campaign, the 19-year-old has now started the last ten Austrian Bundesliga matches, and an average FotMob match rating of 7.31 ranks him second in the RB Salzburg squad.
Alongside a new centre-back, Leeds have also set out to sign a versatile defender, who is capable of playing anywhere across the backline.
