Police have now issued a statement on this incident.
A GMP spokesperson said:
“Last night (Friday 15 May 2026) shortly before 11pm, we were called to reports of a suspected firearms discharge on Kenwood Avenue in Leigh.
“A man in his 40s was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be caused by a firearm. He remains in hospital for treatment however the injuries aren’t believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
“It is believed that shots were fired towards the man whilst outside a property by an unknown offender who then ran off down the road in the direction of Manchester Road.
“No arrests have been made at this stage.
“A scene remains in place this morning whilst officers conduct further enquiries, and an investigation is underway.
“Detectives are appealing to the public for information. If you know more about this incident or were in the area at the time and saw something suspicious, we urge you to come forward. We are also particularly keen to speak to anyone who has doorbell, dashcam, or CCTV footage from the surrounding areas.”
