Police investigating a suspected ‘hit-and-run’ in Birmingham have arrested a 52-year-old man while another has been released on bail

A second man has been arrested following a suspected ‘hit-and-run’ incident in Birmingham which left a man with serious injuries in hospital.
A van is said to have hit a man in Mayfield Road in Stirchley on Thursday (May 14) night.
The man, in his 30s, suffered leg injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains.

Met Police arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of wounding in London on Saturday (May 16).
The Met Police initially said: “Officers have made two arrests in the vicinity of Euston station.
“Two men, wanted on suspicion of GBH following an incident in Birmingham where a man was run over, were spotted arriving in to London to attend the UTK protest.”
But then issued an update and said: “A correction on the post below.
“One of the two men was arrested in connection with the incident in Birmingham where a man was run over as previously described.
“The second arrested man was wanted for a separate offence which involved encouraging people to attack a police officer.”

And now West Midlands Police has confirmed it arrested a second man on suspicion of wounding.
The 52-year-old was arrested in Birmingham on Saturday evening.
Police said the van ‘failed to stop at the scene’ but was recovered nearby in Prince Road and is being forensically examined.
Met Police has also posted footage of the first arrest in London on its social media channel.
It said: “A video of officers making an arrest near Euston earlier has been widely shared.
“Here it is from the officers’ perspective.
“One arrest in a crowd requires numerous officers and can involve unpredictable levels of physical and verbal resistance.
“It’s not as simple as many think.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A second man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding following a collision involving a van and a pedestrian in Stirchley on Thursday night.
“The 52-year-old was arrested in Birmingham on Saturday evening.
“It follows the arrest of a 44-year-old man this morning by the Met Police in London.
“Both men are currently in custody on suspicion of wounding and will remain as our enquiries continue.
“The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, suffered leg injuries in the collision on Mayfield Road and remains in hospital.
“The van failed to stop at the scene but was recovered on nearby Prince Road and is now being examined.
“We are viewing CCTV and social media footage as we work to identify the full circumstances of what happened. Anyone with information has been asked to get in touch via 101, quoting 5802 of 14 May.”
