Federico Chiesa is reportedly set to leave Liverpool after a difficult two-year spell at Anfield, with the club preparing to part ways with the Italian winger.

Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in 2024 for a fee of $16.4 million and, despite remaining a popular figure among supporters, he has struggled for consistent minutes under Arne Slot. The Italian winger still has two years left on his contract, but momentum is now building towards an exit.

The 28-year-old versatile attacker has managed just one Premier League start, with two goals and one assist across all competitions, and it is increasingly evident that he does not form part of Slot’s long-term plans at Anfield.

Chiesa is now understood to be so determined to secure a move away from Liverpool that he is even prepared to accept a pay cut, a notable shift given his salary has been a major sticking point for potential suitors.

The Italian winger’s output since arriving at Anfield has failed to match expectations. Despite 32 appearances this season, he has accumulated just over 11 hours of playing time in total, the equivalent of fewer than eight full matches.

In the Premier League, his involvement has been even more limited, with 24 appearances yielding just 281 minutes, largely as a late substitute. Overall, across 48 games for Liverpool, Chiesa has registered five goals and five assists. Those figures have intensified scrutiny over what was initially seen as a high-upside signing, with his time on Merseyside increasingly viewed as an unsuccessful spell.

Injuries have played a part in disrupting his rhythm, while competition for attacking places has remained strong. However, his standing in Slot’s plans appears to have weakened further, with the Dutch coach at times opting for Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai in wide roles even during Mohamed Salah’s absences.

Liverpool is expected to look to recoup a significant portion of the $16.4 million fee paid for Chiesa, with interest already building from Serie A as several clubs monitor his situation ahead of the summer window. The Reds are believed to be open to offers in the region of $17-$23 million, which would still represent a modest return on a player who has struggled to establish himself since arriving in England.

Juventus has been linked with a possible return move since January, while Napoli, Atalanta, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Roma have all been mentioned as potential destinations.

There has also been growing frustration among sections of the Liverpool fanbase over his limited involvement, particularly during periods when attacking options were stretched, with other underperforming players often preferred ahead of him.

A significant summer rebuild is expected at Anfield, with new wide attacking options high on the agenda. Names such as Bradley Barcola, Yan Diomande and Antonio Nusa have all been linked as potential targets. Before any major squad changes are made, however, Liverpool must secure a top-five finish and Champions League qualification, with failure to do so likely to have a major impact on the scale of its summer overhaul.
