Davide Ancelotti is under serious consideration to be the next Rangers manager.
The Real Madrid assistant coach – and son of legendary boss Carlo – is a major contender to be Philippe Clement’s long-term replacement at Ibrox.
Media outlets in Spain reported that Ancelotti Jnr will head to Glasgow in mid-June for his first managerial job with Gers.
Record Sport understands club chiefs have made contact with the Italian, with talks still at an early stage and other names also on their radar.
Ibrox sources have claimed there is no leading candidate for the job at this point in their manager search and an appointment isn’t imminent.
But 35-year-old Ancelotti is heavily in the mix, with reports suggesting he’ll bring Real Madrid coach Francesco Mauri as his assistant.
Carlo Ancelotti will leave the Bernabeu to become the Brazil national team coach and his son is now ready to become a manager in his own right after spells under his father at PSG, Napoli, Everton and Bayern Munich.
Rangers are currently subject of an American takeover from 49ers Enterprises and US tycoon Andrew Cavenagh.
Along with new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, they’re on the look-out for a new gaffer with club legend Barry Ferguson currently in charge.
That process is now well underway and Ancelotti Jnr is on their list of targets with some bookmakers suspending betting on him ending up at Ibrox.
He could assist dad Carlo with the Brazilian squad for their games on June 6 and 10 – before potentially being unveiled by Rangers.
It would be an ambitious appointment by the club’s new owners but also a risky one given Ancelotti’s lack of managerial experience.
