GOSFORD – Greg Polson
TOWNSEND – The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained gelding is set to reach peak form next start after two runs back from a break. On Saturday he rolled along in front of the field in the $500,000 The Coast and his early and mid-sectionals were both quicker than the benchmark for that class of race over the 1600m trip. Although Townsend weakened in the straight his last 400m sectional was still only a length slower off the benchmark and there is plenty of scope for improvement. His two best runs last preparation were third and fourth-up, finishing third in the ATC Cup (2000m) at Rosehill and a similar placing in the Summer Cup at Randwick. No idea where Townsend heads next but the stable is one of the best in the business at placing their horses and I want to be on wherever his upcoming runs are. Career statistics (10:2-1-4).

CAULFIELD – Aaron Mills
JENNI’S MEADOW – A Queensland Oaks nomination hints at a possible trip north in the weeks ahead but wherever Jenni’s Meadow shows up next, she should be hard to beat. Starting second-up on Saturday after failing to make the VRC Oaks in the spring, Jenni’s Meadow settled at the tail in a big field over 1600m before charging home wider out to finish fifth, running the best last 600 and 200m sectionals in the race. She’s likely to be at her peak next start and anything up to 2000 metres looks well within reach. Career statistics (7:2-1-1).

GOLD COAST – Graeme Carey
BOSUSTOW – The heavy track magnified margins on Saturday but nothing could detract from Bosustow’s effort to win the Gold Coast Guineas (1300m). Resuming after a Group 1 placing in New Zealand, Josh Parr settled Bosustow midfield five lengths away off a strong tempo to the 800m before being held up as they straightened. The leaders got the stitch below the 300m, the split appeared and Bosustow dashed through quickly putting a gap on them and winning as he liked. He has always shown promise but appears to have come back in great order and three-year-olds with a light weight are always threats in The Stradbroke and I’d expect that’s where he’s heading. Career statistics (14:3-4-2).

MORPHETTVILLE – Heath Pope
SAV ON ICE – This three-year-old colt is lightly raced but has a bright future. He doesn’t possess much early natural pace and on Saturday he was snagged back to last from his wide draw in a Benchmark 64 over 1050m. Never on the track, but he closed off well for a respectful 2-1/2 length defeat. He was first-up on Saturday and will appreciate more ground and he’s a horse with plenty of room to move in the handicaps so follow him as we head into the winter months. Career statistics (3:1-0-0).

ASCOT – Aaron Mills
KRAKEN TIME – It was hard not to notice the enormous run from this Sharon Miller-trained gelding. Resuming since December without a trial, Kraken Time slipped at the start and settled at the tail before charging home through the ruck to finish a close third. He has a tendency to step slowly however is also likely to take benefit from that first-up effort and next start any luck should be hard to hold out. Career statistics (35:10-7-4).
