A lot of water, though, would have to flow under various bridges still for it become a reality, including establishing whether it would be possible to turn around the stadium in just five days following the Zach Bryan gig there on Sunday June 14.
Glasgow would, of course, also have to qualify for the final for this to become a live issue. Franco Smith’s side face Connacht at Scotstoun in the URC quarter-final a week on Friday (May 29) and, should they win that one, would then take on either Munster or Bulls at Murrayfield in the June 6 semi-final.
Glasgow earned the right to have home advantage all the way through the playoffs after finishing top of the regular season URC table but have been struggling to find a suitable stadium available to host a potential final anywhere in Scotland or the north of England. It looked as if Ulster’s Affidea Stadium in Belfast would be the preferred option but they could now keep it on home soil should Scottish Rugby push ahead with this proposed U-turn on Murrayfield’s availability.
Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby are keeping tightlipped on what is a very fluid situation, while the URC are expected to announce their preferred potential venues for the final in the next week or so.
