The Edinburgh-based human towers group, Colla Castellera d’Edinburgh, is preparing for what could become one of the largest human tower performances ever attempted in Scotland at this year’s Meadows Festival on 7 June.
A spokesperson said: “Last year, the colla made local history at Meadows Festival by successfully building Edinburgh’s first-ever six-level human tower. The achievement was only possible thanks to the many people from across Edinburgh who joined the open rehearsals and later helped form the base of the tower during the festival performance.
“This year, the group hopes to build on that success and is once again inviting the public to get involved through two free open rehearsals, open to complete beginners as well as anyone curious about trying something new. No previous experience is needed, and the rehearsals focus on teamwork, community, and participation.
“Human towers (“castells”) are a UNESCO-recognised cultural tradition originating from Catalonia, where teams work together to build multi-level towers using cooperation, balance, and trust. The Edinburgh group has been growing steadily and hopes to bring one of its biggest performances yet to the Meadows Festival stage.”
Open rehearsal dates:

The group welcomes everybody – whether sporty, curious, or simply looking to meet people and try something different.
Drinks and snacks are provided after rehearsals, and participants who perform at the festival receive a free team t-shirt.
