Holidaymakers reported having to wait on the tarmac on one of the hottest days of the year

Passengers at East Midlands Airport were evacuated after concerns about a checked-in piece of luggage.
The Castle Donington airport, in Leicestershire, was evacuated at about 9.30am on Tuesday, May 26.
A spokesperson for East Midlands Airport said: “As a precautionary measure, we evacuated our terminal this morning after our security screening equipment highlighted a concern with a checked-in item of luggage.
“Investigations have now concluded that there is no risk and we are resuming normal operations, with passengers re-entering the terminal.
“We apologise for any inconvenience, but the safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority.”
One passenger took to social media to ask why they had been evacuated onto the runway on “one of the hottest days of the year and no shade or water and no updates from any staff”.
Several others reported that planes were forced to circle the airport while the incident was dealt with.
