Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has confirmed Joe Tate’s future following his dangerous fall, which occurred during a whodunit storyline.

The scheming villain has made several enemies in the past few months, with the character considering leaving the village for good after he stole Caleb Miligan’s kidney in a bid to save his own life.

After his various secrets – such as his affair with Dawn Fletcher – were exposed, Joe was pushed by a mystery figure as the fall left his life hanging in the balance, with Monday’s (12 May) instalment revealing that Dawn was the one who attacked him in a crime of passion.

Tuesday’s (13 May) episode began with Dawn being questioned by the police over her revised statement, with Billy soon corroborating her story. As they pondered over their actions once Joe is woken up, Billy told Dawn to fabricate a story in which she dumped Joe.

While Charity and Noah were also interrogated, Dawn and Billy continued to discuss their plan, with Billy sharing that he had told several other people that the pair had gotten back together, though Dawn was sceptical if this was the right move.

Joe’s progress was later confirmed by Jacob Gallagher, who shared that he had overheard the doctor saying that the villain would soon be on the mend. Reflecting on the crash – that was caused by Joe – that killed his mother Leyla, Jacob wished Joe to be dead.

Dawn later shared with Billy that she had been informed that Joe would wake in “a day or two”, with Billy remarking that it was all the more reason to “get [their] story straight”. Despite Dawn urging their reconciliation was “fake”, Billy said that he would do anything to protect their family.

With Joe set to wake in the near future, will he be able to place Dawn as his attacker? Or are more twists set to come in this storyline?…

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
