Another wildfire broke out in Greater Manchester on Tuesday evening (May 13) with smoke seen billowing for miles and emergency crews rushing to the scene.

Fire crews were called to the blaze on Sheep House Lane and Rivington Road in Bolton at around 8pm. The dry grass can be seen well alight with thick smoke funnelling into the air.

An ‘avoid the area’ warning was put in place as six fire engines raced to the scene, due to the amount of smoke covering the locality. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the incident to assist.

It came just hours after fire crews were called to another wildfire at Holcombe Hill in Bury. It took around five-hours for the flames to be put out, with the ground near Peel Tower left blackened and scorched.

“Thought as much Can see them from Egerton,” one person said as the smoke plumes were seen overhead. I can see the smoke from Edgworth!” commented another.
