A tricky start to the meeting, with a field of unraced fillies in one of the season’s first six-furlong races for two-year-olds. The one who appeals most is Richard Spencer’s expensive breeze-up buy GOLD DIGGER, a speedily bred daughter of first-season sire Starman who cost 260,000 guineas last month.

She’s preferred over the Gosdens’ Nandita and Ollie Sangster’s Luminare before the all-important betting clues.

Chris Dwyer’s BERRY CLEVER would have made it harder for winner Zariela had he kept straight in the finish when second over a mile here three weeks ago, so he can go one better dropping down a furlong in trip with the aid of first-time headgear.

Dark Side Thunder has done all his winning on the all-weather but is becoming well treated, so must be respected on his return to turf, with Rhythmic Acclaim another to consider back down in class.

HOW LOVELY beat subsequent winner Nazuki in good style when making a winning debut at Southwell in October for Simon & Ed Crisford so she looks the one to beat in this fillies’ novice.

Fellow penalised winner Sunlit Uplands landed the odds with some comfort at Chelmsford in December, so rates the main threat ahead of Mahra’s Love, who was beaten only by useful prospect Tawasol, a stablemate of the selection, at Brighton on her return.

William Knight’s BEACH POINT signalled he is ready to go in again when runner-up to Double Red at Nottingham last time, so last summer’s course-and-distance winner earns the vote with the headgear going back on.

Handicap debutant Chiaretto could emerge as the main danger now he tackles a longer distance, with Ruling Master and the free-going Risen Again both firmly in the picture too, in search of a first career win.

This five-furlong contest could go the way of ANOTHER ABBOT, who went with some promise when third on his final start over course and distance as a juvenile and appeals as a likely improver now stepping into handicap company for the in-form yard of William Haggas.

Recent Wolverhampton scorer Nightbird rates the chief threat, having overcome a poor start, for that success, with the handily-weighted pair Style King and Invincible Crown also firmly in the reckoning.

Lots with chances and it could be worth siding with James Fanshawe’s HELP ME RHONDA to confirm earlier promise and capitalise on a lenient mark.

She’s been shaping well on the all-weather this year and this straight track should suit after failing to handle the bend at Lingfield.

Union Island also didn’t enjoy the rub of the green when seventh at Lingfield last time out and is next on the list, with Jungle Cruise and Oh So Audacious also worthy of consideration.
