Sony says more and more players are beginning to bring their games out of the living room, and that’s the inspiration behind its latest 1440p IPS monitor.
Due out in the US and Japan only on 27th August, this new panel comes with a very unique gimmick for PS5 owners: a DualSense docking station that you can use to charge your controller while you’re not playing.
It’s a simple touch, but the hook – which can be hidden when not in use – is a surprisingly tidy and useful feature which gives this monitor a USP.
Of course, price and performance are key when it comes to any screen, and Sony is touting VRR, HDR, and 120Hz support for PS5 here. You’ll also be able to connect it to a PC, with the refresh rate jumping up to 240Hz there.
The markets Sony is targeting are interesting here; Japan, with its smaller living spaces, makes sense. But at $349.99, I’ll be interested in the uptake in the US. It’s a reasonable-ish price.
This monitor will pair nicely with Sony’s new Pulse Elevate Speakers by the way, which don’t have a global release date just yet. The company says those will come out later this year.
But if you’re interested in the new monitor, pre-orders will open at 10AM ET on 5th June via PS Direct, with supplies available in “limited quantities”.
I would expect if it’s received well the manufacturer may look at bringing this to other regions, like the UK and Europe.
Personally, I do love that DualSense charging hook – that’s a pleasantly unique addition, in my opinion.
