Bristol has been named as the most popular place that Londoners are moving to, with several neighbourhoods in particular proving a big draw. New data from a survey conducted by Compare My Move found that Bristol came out on top over Manchester and Edinburgh.
When it came to choosing where to live after being in the capital, many chose Bristol due to the lower cost of living in the area. Others wanted to live in the area due to the thriving arts and entertainment in the city.
The most popular areas people moved to including the BS3 postcode which includes the Bedminster, Southville and Ashton Gate areas. Over 10% of the Compare My Move users who moved from London moving to the BS3 postcode.
Dave Sayce, founder and managing director of Compare My Move said: “Bristol has long been a popular destination for Londoners looking to leave the capital.
“The city offers a lower cost of living, with more affordable house prices and rents, while still maintaining a vibrant urban lifestyle.
“From its thriving arts and entertainment scene to its diverse bars, restaurants, and nightlife, Bristol delivers much of what people love about city living, without the high price tag.
“One major advantage for Londoners moving to Bristol is increased buying power.
The significant gap in property and rental prices between the two cities means London buyers often get much more for their money in Bristol.
“This influx of wealthier buyers allows Bristol sellers to maintain high asking prices. However, it can also mean that local buyers face a more limited selection of properties, as competition increases from those moving out of London.”

Another benefit of living in Bristol is the close proximity to the capital, with the city being just a two hour drive away.
Mr Sayce said: “Bristol is just over a two-hour drive from London, and the train from Bristol Parkway to Paddington takes just over an hour. With the rise of remote and hybrid working, Londoners could easily keep their jobs in the capital while relocating to Bristol, commuting when needed.
“This also helps explain why certain areas of Bristol are particularly popular with London movers. Each of these areas offers convenient access to either the M4, M5, or Bristol Temple Meads.
“BS3 and BS1 are both located close to the city centre, which is well connected via Bristol Temple Meads and the Bristol Bus Station.
“BS5 and BS16 benefit from quick access to the M4 through the M32, while BS8 is conveniently linked to the M5.
“These areas, with their excellent transport links, are perfect for anyone leaving London who still wants to return regularly, whether for work or to see friends and family.”
