One customer had been trying to buy items at Tesco’s branch on Hanover Street in Liverpool city centre, but was greeted by a security guard at the door who was informing customers the store was accepting cash and chip and pin payments only.
The customer told the ECHO: “The staff were being great in trying to communicate the issues to everyone but they looked quite stressed. It’s a bit of a pain because there aren’t many bigger supermarkets like this in the city centre to try and pick up things like nappies.”
The ECHO also received reports of issues with contactless payments at stores in Heswall and Pensby on the Wirral.
