Newbury 12:50 – Sunway

An absolute belter. SUNWAY is clearly a very hard horse to win on and ran about 10lb below form when only third on seasonal debut at this track. However, if anywhere near his best, he’s very hard to keep out the frame here and can be given a pressure-free ride by Kieran Shoemark.

He stays well but also has a turn of speed, and for my mind, his best recent effort was against Los Angeles at the Curragh when held up and brought through late. I’m hoping that’s what will happen here for David Menuisier, but this could get tactical as there is no obvious front-runner.

Newmarket 13:05 – Leadman

ITV go to Newmarket for this handicap over 7f. LEADMAN is interesting here, having recently moved to David O’Meara from the Andrew Balding yard. He started life with a second to the useful Epictetus at Newmarket, and that early form suggests he should be better than a horse rated 83.

Leadman came back with a second at Newcastle earlier in the month, which should have got him ready for this. Richard Kingscote rides.

Now a Listed event for 3yo over 6f. SYMBOL OF HONOUR was once sixth behind Rashabar in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and has recently been good in Meydan.

He did nothing behind Cosmic Year in the King Charles II at Newmarket when last seen, but he was a bit keen that day and it might just be that he didn’t stay the 7f. However, he really should be good enough to take a race like this for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.

A handicap for 3yo over 7f. I’ll chance that ORIGINAL OUTLAW can do something on his return from a gelding operation. He promised quite a bit as a youngster, with a fine second at Salisbury to Royal Playwright. That level of ability should mean he takes all the beating in a race like this rated 85 and the trip is ideal. Ralph Beckett trains and Richard Kingscote takes the ride once again.

A big betting handicap for 3yo over 1m2f. For GENEALOGY this is very different from taking on leading Derby hope Delacroix as he did in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at the end of last season.

Genealogy wasn’t good enough that day, but it was against horses rated 100+. He is off a rating of 96 here, and could well be chucked in for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien. Surely has more to come from the horse that once cost 400,000gns.

Newmarket 14:15 – Helm Rock

A handicap over 1m. HELM ROCK is a good old boy and is fighting fit after five runs this year, four on the all-weather. Turf is not an issue for him, and he ran very well at Doncaster when sixth in the Spring Mile. Let’s hope it’s a good day for Richard Kingscote as he is on top again, this time for Danny and Claire Kubler.

The feature of the day in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes over 1m. Just a fantastic renewal. Pace should come from Fallen Angel and probably Lead Artist and Persica. With a French Derby second to his name, the bang-in-form Dancing Gemini could easily win too.

However, NOTABLE SPEECH is probably the most talented runner in the line-up, with a mix of speed and stamina. He’s a 2000 Guineas hero and was a fine third when last seen in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, where he had every chance even though he was coming in from off the pace.

It will be tough on his seasonal debut, but fast ground is what he likes and he will try to sit and pounce.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaas. You hear me Paddy?
