Swindon Town loanee Joel Cotterill has been called up to the senior Wales training squad before their World Cup qualifiers.

Craig Bellamy selected the 20-year-old fresh off of playing 41 times for Swindon last season, contributing three goals and two assists, in a fine campaign on loan from Swansea City.

Wales are heading to Alicante in Spain next week for a warm-weather training camp before their qualifiers against Liechtenstein in Cardiff and Belgium in Brussels next month.

29 players are being brought along as the former Liverpool striker takes a closer look at players within the national pool before naming his full squad on May 29.

The group does not include established players like Brennan Johnson, Ben Davies, and Harry Wilson as their club seasons do not come to an end until this weekend, but there are plenty of familiar faces like Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu.

Cotterill is one of a group of players who have impressed for the youth national teams who have been called into the camp, and is one of only five players involved who played beneath the Championship last season.

The midfielder who spent last season on loan at Town from Swansea has made 12 appearances for the Under-21s and has been given his shot to impress Bellamy.
