Chris Wilder and Leeds United aren’t the friendliest of competitors, and that’s been shown this season.

The stakes increased this Championship campaign in what was an extraordinary promotion race.

Wilder and Leeds have been at the heart of it, with Wilder still being told about Leeds’ promotion to his frustration.

It was the Whites who prevailed with the title though to Leeds fans’ relief, and have even since mocked Wilder.

Well, he’s had plenty to say about Daniel Farke’s side this season, and a new excuse has been brought up by the Sheffield United boss.

The feud between the club and the manager has been going on for a while now.

Ever since Wilder mocked Leeds’ failure in 2019, fans haven’t held back since and love to see the Blades boss get rattled.

Wilder was fuming after Leeds’ 3-1 win over Sheffield in what turned out to be a pivotal game in the promotion race.

With Leeds coming out on top, Wilder has opened up the excuse book again and went back to the start of the season.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the Blades manager claimed that their challenges were ‘far greater’, which cost them.

“We weren’t at the level of Burnley and Leeds at the start of the season in terms of what we had to deal with,” Wilder said.

“In my opinion, our challenges were far greater at the start and even through the season.

“We would have had to get 103 points to go up, so even if we won all three games that week, we wouldn’t have gotten that number.

“We just had a bad week. I don’t think we tossed it away. It’s pretty lazy to say that.”

Sheffield United ultimately bottled the season against Leeds

It’s baffling to hear Wilder claim that challenges went against them when, at one point, the Blades were top of the tree.

The Blades manager even went as far as to say that Leeds were in the wrong position, due to Sheffield’s point deduction, but two points still wouldn’t have been enough to secure promotion after Wilder’s monumental bottle in the final games.

But it seems as though Wilder can’t accept that fact, and if his side don’t achieve promotion against Sunderland, no doubt the excuses will come back out again.

Leeds will just be focusing on their own fortunes next season but Wilder just can’t seem to let go of Farke’s success.
