The sister of one of two teenage boys killed in a motorbike crash says his death has ‘shattered’ the family’s world.
She also paid touching tribute to a boy who ‘had a way of making people smile’, saying he ‘made life better just by being in it’.
Kailem Robinson, 16, and Kaine Darby, 17, both died following a crash between a car and a motorbike in Salford last Thursday evening. The driver of the car, a 24 year-old woman, stopped to assist officers at the scene and no arrests have been made.
The tragedy has led to an outpouring of grief in the area – and a groundswell of support for the families.
Now, in a statement provided to the Manchester Evening News, Kailem’s sister, Paige, has paid tribute to her brother, saying he loved his family.

She said: “Though only 16, my brother lived with a heart so big and a spirit so full that he touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He had a way of making people smile – his laughter was contagious, his kindness effortless and his presence unforgettable.
“He left behind a legacy of warmth, courage, and joy. Losing him in the motorbike accident has shattered our world, but the love he gave and the memories we hold will never fade. He was more than a brother – he was a best friend, a light in the dark and someone who made life better just by being in it.

“Growing up in Salford, it’s easy for kids his age to make a mistake. People forget he’s just 16 and in an environment where the odds are stacked against youth. I made mistakes, too, at his tender age of just turned 16.”
Paige said Kailem loved his nieces, Azariah and Amelia, and his family ‘to pieces’. She added: “His laughter still makes me smile and I know he will be here in spirit, guiding us through our life choices. Love you Kailem always.”

A sea of floral tributes were left at the scene on Lower Broughton Road. A huge banner saying ‘RIP Kailem and Kaine’ was also placed there. Framed pictures of the boys were left as part of the memorial.
“Kaine we love you, fly high,” one wrote. “Kaine and Kailem RIP, gone but not forgotten,” another read. “RIP lads, you will be missed,” another community member wrote in tribute. The road was closed off as family and friends flocked to the scene to pay their own tributes.
In an appeal for information following the tragedy, Detective Sergeant Matt Waggett, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a heart-breaking and upsetting incident where two young men have sadly lost their lives and our thoughts are with their families.
“Our investigation continues so we can give them the answers they deserve. This is still an active investigation, and we are looking for anyone who has any information regarding the incident to come forward and get in touch with us.”
