Manchester United’s first signing of the 2025 summer transfer window is imminent.

After a torrid campaign, Ineos were always going to need a big summer transfer window.

This was promised in recent months, with Manchester United targeting four major arrivals, followed by potentially further signings funded by the long list of expected sales this summer.

Already, the club has agreed deals for youth signings Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik to join, with both expected to be announced next month, but now the first major addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad looks increasingly imminent.

The signing in question is Wolves’ standout performer Matheus Cunha, who has been the number one target over the past few months. This has been the case since Amorim and Cunha were spotted together at Old Trafford with their arms over each other’s shoulders.

But now, after months of speculation, the deal looks imminent.

Cunha is a serious upgrade on every attacker United currently has at the club, and his signing is very exciting for the 2025-26 season. Now, with the season over, United hope Cunha will undergo his medical this week ahead of signing a long-term contract with the club, with Wolves receiving his £62.5m transfer fee in full by 2027.

Once confirmed, it is widely believed that Cunha will take the number 10 shirt from Marcus Rashford, who is expected to be sold over the next few months.

With the deal advancing and days away from completion, now Cunha’s Wolves and Brazil teammate Andre has sent a message to the outgoing attacker.

Taking to his Instagram story, Andre wrote a caption along with a picture of the pair, which suggests the move is very close.

“I’m sure you’ll shine wherever you go, my friend. May God bless you and your family wherever you go.”

This message all but confirms the exit of Cunha with the pair of close friends, while not naming United, it is Old Trafford that is his only destination right now.

Manchester United should consider a double swoop at Wolves this summer

Cunha to United is all but done, however, this might not be the final time the two clubs are in contact this summer, with the Red Devils still having several positions that will need attention.

One of these areas is the midfield, and with no clear standout options being linked to the club right now beyond Adam Wharton, a return to Wolves may be in order.

Wolves’ Andre has a lot of the qualities that Ineos will be looking for in a midfield signing this summer, as he ranks highly in the Premier League for pass completion with an average of 93 per cent, which is in the 97th percentile.

Additionally, Andre boasts impressive defensive statistics in his tackling, duel winning and interceptions which means he would be a player to replace Casemiro and/or Manuel Ugarte, but comes with the added advantage of having incredible passing that will help in the build up and ball retention.
