Fire crews have raced to a horror blaze at a popular chip shop in Edinburgh this evening.

Emergency services were called to the Sultan Takeaway at Bughtlin Market in East Craigs after the alarm was raised shortly before 4.30pm on Monday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service quickly sent seven appliances to the scene. Pictures taken from the scene show firefighters battling the blaze.

The building can be seen to have been completely gutted by the inferno. It’s not currently clear if anyone has been injured as a result of the fire.

The road has been closed by police while emergency services deal with the incident. Locals are asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted to the fire at 4.27pm on Monday. We currently have seven appliances at the scene including two special appliances.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance following a fire at a premises in the Bughtlin Market area of Edinburgh, which was reported around 5.05pm on Monday, May 26, 2025.

“The road is currently closed and the public is asked to avoid the area at this time.”
