A LARGE fire has broken out at a popular Edinburgh fish and chip shop.

The blaze broke out this afternoon at the Sultan Takeaway in the capital’s Bughtlin Market.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched seven engines to the scene after the alarm was raised at 4.27pm.

Flames were spotted ripping through the premises earlier as black smoke billowed into the air.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and firefighters remain at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We got the local at 4.27pm today and we currently have seven appliances in attendance and a few specialist appliances. We are still in attendance.”
