With Record Store Day set to take place on Saturday (April 12), a number of music fans up and down the country will be hoping to get their hands on some exclusive and very limited releases.
But one person who is determined not to miss out on this year’s limited records has decided to queue up a whopping 23 hours early outside one Manchester store to be the first in line to pick from their offerings.
Evan, from Wigan, arrived at Piccadilly Records, on Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter, at 9am this morning (April 10). Equipped with a book to entertain him until the shop opens at 8am tomorrow, he said he has his eyes set on one record in particular.
The young man, who has since been joined by another in the queue, wants to secure a copy of the Wicked movie soundtrack. For RSD, the collection will be released on a numbered 2LP Glitter green and glitter pink combo. Limited to just 2,000 copies worldwide, the vinyl will also include an exclusive track that has only been released digitally so far.
Posting on Facebook, Piccadilly Records wrote: “It’s started……. First person in the queue for @recordstoreday 2025 is Evan from Wigan. He’s never queued up before for RSD arrived at 9am this morning.

“23 hours before we actually open at 8am tomorrow. He’s after the Wicked: Soundtrack, I think he’ll get one. [Finger’s crossed] the weather holds for you. Stay safe!”
The store’s customers were quick to share their praise for Ewan, with one person commenting: “That’s the kind of commitment that I admire in young people.” Another said: “Fair play.”
One other person wrote: “Great to see such enthusiasm.” Another commented: “Big up Evan lad.” One also wrote: “I wanna buy him a coffee.” Another posted: “He’s my new hero.”

For RSD, Piccadilly Records will be holding its own day party to coincide with the event. There will be a selection of DJs, including Camilla Reghenzi, Joey T and BBC Radio 6 Music’s Deb Grant, performing from 12pm to 6pm, with beers available from Cloudwater.
Alongside the Wicked soundtrack, this year’s RSD releases also include exclusives from Charli XCX, The Cure, Post Malone, Jethro Tull, Gorillaz, Lou Reed, Gracie Abrams, Rage Against the Machine, Air and Taylor Swift.
RSD is held each year to help support local and independent record stores, with many releases that will only ever be available to buy on the day itself with very limited quantities available. Alongside Piccadilly Records, the likes of Vinylfetishes, on Pollard Street East, and Vinyl Exchange, also on Oldham Street, will be taking part.
