The BBC has added Australian mystery drama The Last Anniversary to its streaming service.

It was confirmed last year that the broadcaster had acquired the adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2005 novel of the same name, though a release date wasn’t immediately announced.

However, the BBC quietly added all six episodes of The Last Anniversary to iPlayer over the weekend, with the release coming after the series finished airing on Binge in Australia earlier this month.

Starring The Tourist‘s Danielle Macdonald and A Discovery of Witches‘ Teresa Palmer, The Last Anniversary follows a woman who inherits a house on an island that harbours many secrets, including the mysterious disappearance of a young couple 70 years prior.

“When Sophie Honeywell (Palmer) inherits a house on the island, left to her by her ex-boyfriend’s great-aunt Connie, it’s the fresh start she’s craving, despite the unwelcome reception she receives on arrival,” the synopsis reads.

The Last Anniversary is directed by Law & Order: Organized Crime‘s John Polson from a script penned by Nine Perfect Strangers writer Samantha Strauss, with Nicole Kidman on board as an executive producer.

In the reviews of The Last Anniversary’s book listing on Amazon, Reese Witherspoon said it is “so well written that it pulls you in from the first page”, adding that the story “keeps you guessing until the very end”.

“Moriarty writes vividly, wittily and wickedly” noted the Sunday Express, with Woman & Home lauding the novel as a “riveting drama packed with suspense and secrets”.

As for the show’s reception, it currently holds a strong approval rating of 86% from 7 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, with The Guardian describing the series as “tender and mysterious”.

The Last Anniversary is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
